Advocate During National GEAR UP Week
SHOWCASE LOCAL ISSUES & LEADERS
As they say, all politics is local. GEAR UP Week is a great time to highlight your local needs, efforts, and position your leaders in visible ways to address issues of college readiness.
Share your GEAR UP program’s success at your school board’s meeting.
Host a forum for local K-12 and higher education leaders to discuss shared challenges and opportunities.
Invite your mayor to share a message of support online.
GET A CITY OR STATE PROCLAMATION
Use our proclamation template and a sample proclamation request to:
Get your local leaders involved and ask them to formally proclaim GEAR UP Week in your city.
Partner up with other GEAR UP programs in your state and get your governor to proclaim GEAR UP Week statewide as well.
REACH OUT TO YOUR MEMBERS of Congress
Your House and Senate members are the ones responsible for GEAR UP, so it’s imperative to include them in National GEAR UP Week events.
Invite members of Congress to speak in-person or virtually at a GEAR UP event.
Have students write letters of appreciation to congressional representatives or use the NCCEP Action Center.
Encourage your members of Congress to participate in a social media campaign.
